Seven savvy seventh graders participated in the Maine Middle School Science and Engineering Fair and they knocked it out of the park! Five went today in person and two participated virtually. Judges asked students some tough questions about their projects and they rose to the challenge! Go Dragons! (More photos in the next post.)

Congratulations to the Lego Track Meet Team for being the first Saint George team to attend the event on Saturday! They entered 4 events and got two first places and a third place. Extra kudos to Trinity for designing a robot that could drive up a 70 degree incline and to Brennan for designing the fastest robot in the whole competition! Go Dragons!

Our fish are being fired and as batches come out of the kiln they are being sealed with a coat of acrylic gesso! In between creating the fish and preparing them for final painting is our time to dig into the history of the run: What was it like in our community when the fish came in? Why did we lose our run? What has been done to try and restore the run?

On Friday, St. George School students and staff celebrated Better World Day by participating in various community service projects up and down the peninsula. Whether it was picking up trash around town, filling up little free libraries, creating a garden, or making our school sign more beautiful, a meaningful and fun day was had by all. Each year, thousands of students across the country at EL network schools join together with one common purpose: to make the world a better place. It is a guiding message woven throughout our year, but made clearly visible on this unique day.

These teachers bought a brick in memory of St. George School Principal, David W. MacDonald, who was here from 1992 - 1998.

Back to school in the makerspace after April vacation and these 8th grade LEGO engineers are working hard to solve technical problems. They'll be competing at the Robot Track Meet on May 14. You can support students engaging in challenging work like this and help build economic resilience in St. George with a donation towards our CTE/Makerspace Building Project.
#buyabrickbuildamakerspace and literally put your name on the building.

There are free at-home tests (five per household) available for Maine residents through the successful Project Access COVID-19 Tests (ACT) pilot at www.accessCOVIDTests.org. As of March 15, Maine households have ordered 229,845 tests through Project ACT. With the new contract, a total of 425,000 tests will be available.
Maine people in need of home tests may also order them through the federal program. The White House recently announced that U.S. residents can order two sets of four free at-home tests through www.COVIDtests.gov. Residents can also call 1-800-232-0233 for help placing the order.

The 6th graders have been learning about topographic maps and contour lines in STEAM classes, so we decided to make use of our skills and go on a hike. Half chose to go to Bald Rock and the other half hiked over Megunticook to the Camden Hills State Park entrance. We had a great adventure!
