Ms. Thompson's and Mrs. Rice's classes would like to give a huge thank you to the Georges River Education Foundation. Their grant made it possible for the K and 1st-grade students to take part in a very cool learning opportunity about birds. Also a shout out to Mrs. Erb for jumping in and helping us with our learning!
Students have been bird-watching at the feeder station in their classroom and down by the marsh. We installed two bird houses on the playground. Tree swallows set up housekeeping in one of them! Mr. Meinersmann is helping us capture actual footage with the school GoPro. We have included a small clip here (https://youtu.be/KF9K9wFOnHc)!
All of the students researched a bird of their choice and created an expert bird drawing of their bird. We worked on several drafts to get it just the way we wanted it. They also wrote bird reports, we learned so much using the books we purchased with our G.R.E.F. grant!
On Friday, 8th grade students were invited to read with some our youngest dragons. This type of multi-grade K-8 experience is just one of the reasons that St. George School is special.
Next Week the Crew Council will be sponsoring Spirit Week! Every day will be a new adventure!

7th graders taking the Maine Middle School Science and Engineering Fair by storm
Seven savvy seventh graders participated in the Maine Middle School Science and Engineering Fair and they knocked it out of the park! Five went today in person and two participated virtually. Judges asked students some tough questions about their projects and they rose to the challenge! Go Dragons! (More photos in the next post.)

Congratulations to the Lego Track Meet Team for being the first Saint George team to attend the event on Saturday! They entered 4 events and got two first places and a third place. Extra kudos to Trinity for designing a robot that could drive up a 70 degree incline and to Brennan for designing the fastest robot in the whole competition! Go Dragons!
Our fish are being fired and as batches come out of the kiln they are being sealed with a coat of acrylic gesso! In between creating the fish and preparing them for final painting is our time to dig into the history of the run: What was it like in our community when the fish came in? Why did we lose our run? What has been done to try and restore the run?

On Friday, St. George School students and staff celebrated Better World Day by participating in various community service projects up and down the peninsula. Whether it was picking up trash around town, filling up little free libraries, creating a garden, or making our school sign more beautiful, a meaningful and fun day was had by all. Each year, thousands of students across the country at EL network schools join together with one common purpose: to make the world a better place. It is a guiding message woven throughout our year, but made clearly visible on this unique day.
These teachers bought a brick in memory of St. George School Principal, David W. MacDonald, who was here from 1992 - 1998.
