Although it had to be online this year, the Saint George Math Team still competed in the 2021 Mathcounts season. Four of our students qualified to participate in the chapter competition. Congratulations to Charlotte Daum, Noah Keene, Karly Putansu, and Zoe Hufnagel. Our students came in 19th, 18th, 17th, and 5th place overall. This year for the first time, we have a student who qualified for the invitational competition. If you see Charlotte, congratulate her and wish her luck at the invitational competition!

I received this postcard from a student today after his crew was given the opportunity to express gratitude toward different members of our school community. I am glad he noticed and on behalf of all the people making good choices at St. George School, thanks! - Mr. B.
Curriculum Spotlight: During the summer, our Return to School committee identified the need for a well defined social-emotional curriculum at St. George School given the anticipated effect of our extended closure this spring. Meeting students’ individual needs has always been a strength at our small community school which is why adopting 2nd Step as our foundational social-emotional skill-building program was a natural choice. Research clearly shows that students who are explicitly taught skills in emotion regulation, decision making, and focus are better able to meet academic demands as well as develop a greater sense of empathy. 2nd Step is a highly regarded research-based program that supports this part of our mission. For more information about 2nd Step or curriculum at St. George School, please contact Adam Bullard at a.bullard@stgeorgemsu.org

Students riding the Eeyore Bus and the Dolphin Bus tomorrow morning, January 20, who live on Route 131 and Long Cove Road may experience a 5 to 10 minute delay due to a driver absence and subsequent combination of bus runs. Please allow extra time for the bus to arrive. Dolphin Bus students who live on Kinney Woods Road, Dennison Road, Clark Island Road and Seal Harbor Road should remain unaffected. Even though the buses will be combined there will still be space to maintain our bus safety Covid-19 protocols of one child per seat unless siblings.
For her participation in the Read to Ride Summer Reading Challenge, the Maine Department of Education and the Freemasons of Maine awarded 7th grade student Kayla Thompson a gift card for a brand new bike and helmet from Walmart. Congratulations, Kayla!

Parent & Teacher Conferences are scheduled to be held this Thursday and Friday. Over the past several years, we have placed our students at the center of their learning by preparing them for student-led conferences. Even though this powerful practice can't happen this year due to the pandemic restrictions, the teachers at St. George are eager to share the academic and social-emotional growth of our resilient students.
Please reach out to Jan in the office to schedule one of these meetings and/or if any parent or community member wishes to discuss standards-based grading, curriculum, Expeditionary Learning, behavioral procedures, Star Wars or anything else on your mind, please know that I will also be available during these early release days to meet. You can also email me directly at a.bullard@stgeorgemsu.org to set up a time.
Happy Holidays!
