School Seal

Dear St. George School Families,

St. George School will hold a lockdown drill on Thursday, February 10 at around 1:30 p.m.  Each school in Maine is required by state law to conduct a certain number of drills each year; these include fire, evacuation, and lockdown drills.  Lockdown drills train students and staff on what to do in case there was a risk to safety inside the building.  Just as with a fire drill, lockdown drills help us be prepared and safe in case of an emergency.  Knox County Sheriff and St. George emergency response personnel will be at the school on the 10th to assist with the lockdown procedure.

During the lockdown drill, as in an actual lockdown scenario, no one – other than law enforcement personnel – will be permitted to enter the building. To ensure the safety of students, staff, and first responders, it is essential that parents and families do not go to the school in the event of a lockdown.  Your cooperation will help first responders more easily and quickly reach the building and resolve the situation.

Teachers will talk to students about the drill prior to February 10.  In these conversations, teachers will focus on some of the following:

  • This is just a drill, like a fire drill.
  • Just like fire drills, we do lockdown drills to be prepared and safe.
  • All schools in Maine are required to do fire and lockdown drills.
  • During the drill, we will have law enforcement and other first responders here to help us.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  As always, thank you for your help and support!

Sincerely,

 Mike Felton, Superintendent
