We are accepting comments on our application to use federal Title One funds to support students who demonstrate difficulties with math and reading. Please direct comments to Mike Felton, Superintendent via email (m.felton@stgeorgemsu.org) or phone (207.372.6312).

As we have done for the past eight years, we will use our federal Title One money to help fund the Title One teaching and educational technician positions. These educators oversee and implement the Title One Program. This program serves as a RTI (Response to Intervention) Tier II framework at the St. George School and provides high quality, research based instruction and intervention based on individual student need. Students who do not make sufficient progress in the general education classroom, following Tier I interventions, will be provided individualized or small group supplemental instruction in literacy and mathematics through Title One. Assessment data will be used to monitor progress frequently to make informed decisions about instruction. The Title One process will also include parent notification for all students transitioning into Tier II for services and will provide them with progress reports each trimester.

In the fall, all students are benchmarked in math and reading using AimsWeb. Students who score in the 25th percentile or lower in math and reading on the fall AimsWeb are identified for consideration for Title One services. Additionally, we administer the NWEA MAP Growth for math and reading in the spring. Students who score at or below the 20th percentile on the spring NWEA are identified for consideration for Tier I services as well. Teacher observations are also used to identify students who may require Title One services. The Title One Teacher and Education Technician assists classroom teachers in designing, implementing, and tracking Tier I interventions.

Our goals are:

  • 55% of K-8 students will meet their Spring NWEA MAP Reading growth goals by the end of the 23/24SY;
  • 55% of K-8 students will meet their Spring NWEA MAP Math growth goals by the end of the 23/24SY
  • 55% of economically disadvantaged students will meet their Spring NWEA MAP Reading growth goal by the end of the 23/24SY.
  • Middle Level students will increase their "Grit" scores (measuring how well students are able to persevere through setbacks to achieve important long-term goals) from below the 10th percentile nationally to the 25th percentile by the end of the 2023/24SY.
  • 3rd -5th grade students will increase the "Grit" scores (measuring how well students are able to persevere through setbacks to achieve important long-term goals) from the 20th percentile nationally to the 40th percentile by the end of the 2023/24SY.

Please submit comments by August 1 and thank you!

Sincerely,

Mike Felton, St. George MSU Superintendent
